Afterwards you climb a narrow valley leaving the Urubamba bah. The bright sight of the peaks of the Veronika (5,850m.), the deep valley of the Urubamba, the brilliant bromeliaceous and alloys, the magnificent varieties of cactus, the yellow blnket of the the dye weeds in the rural fields. Will enthrall you and you may be worried that you . have not brought along enough film. Due to a lack of acclimatization t he hike could appear difficult. But never mind today the outing is short and you can go slowly. You only have to climb from 2,400m. To 2,700m. And there is plenty of time . The gradual ascent comes to an end in WAYLLABAMBA. A small agricultural community. Many of the houses are built upon Inca constructions . Two roads split here. One along the small river Kusichaca., towards the sacred mountain. Of eternal snows, the Salkantay (6,271m.) the highest in this Vilcanota chain. Wayllabamba is the last inhabited village on the Inca trail towards Machupicchu here is our first camp side , install in the tents, a then a short sunset , dinner and rest.
SECOND DAY.- 5:30 the light Somme , have breakfast and packing, today is the hardest part of the journey and the steepest there are three sections before reaching the crossing. The first goes through a small agricultural and cattle settlement with many brooks which refresh the warm valley . the second goes up to the wood along the Llulluchapata brook.
After a Rocky part you reach the plateau Llulluchapata., at an altitude 3,600m. Surrounded by steep mountains , here is the lunch place. Take a breath on the water fountain of the mountain in the front the sight is recreated by the snow-giant, la veronica, here the last and most dangerous section of the ascent starts. So we reach the first and highest crossing of the Inca trail at 4,200m. Altitude. The crossing is called Warmihuañuna or Hatun Wayruro (bit fruit of good luck), which is a waka ; sanctuary. Here you can see a hole probably made by treasure seekers, relax a while and feel the atmosphere, with the magnificent landscape of the snowy peaks . the valleys open up below this crossing: to the east, below, the Wayllabamba: to the west below , the new regions. The precipitous descent which will seem to you to be longer than it really is follows immediately leading to the bottom of the Pacaymayo. Valley , where will catch a first glimpse of the orchids our second day camp is here. Dinner and rest early.
THIRD DAY.- 6:30 Am Breakfast with your small back already packed. Again the way is going up upwards, to the second crossing. After half an hour of steep climbing, you arrive at the first Inca unit, half way over the crossing. It is RUNTURAKAY “can eggs shaped”, probably a station for the relaxation of travelers, a control post and entrance to the whole Machupicchu complex. Then you step across a small area of ponds, probably used as reservoirs for ruturakay there are still remainders of aqueducts . don't drink the water but relaxes for a while. Without even noticing it, you come to the second Inca crossing, at an altitude of 3,750m. From which you can catch a glimpse of the next valleys. After a short and rugged descent you will be over the well-stoned Inca trail . Among the flowers hanging over the Inca rout are orchids, yellow baboons cantutas (a kind of carnation), flanking a small pond in the clear Andean climate. You soon arrive at the second Inca urban complex SAYAQMARCA “lifted village” at a 3,750 m. Altitude, built in a corner of the mountain over descending terraces. The only admission to this citadel is the steep stairway. Such a urban occupation is stunning. With the rooms, temples and water channel built in an area with little space for agricultural use. Here the most entertaining section of the Inca trail starts. The vegetation highland is left behind. You cross a brook and enter an area of high jungle , covered with bamboos and bush-ropes,, then an open filed with a dry pond. CHAQUICOCHA place where we lunch. You can sing during this hike; the trail is charming with the exception of a section which becomes a quagmire on rainy days. The sidewalks and walls are built on the downhill's or on the rocks, profiting skillfully on the terrain. A trail built wisely to link the Inca urban centers. Suddenly we penetrate a tunnel about 20m. Long, provided with stairways and skylight, carved through a granite mountain; it shows the prowess of Inca engineering farther up the trail there is an impressive sight of the vast scenery which opens up to the mountains.
Next you reach the third Inca urban occupation, PHUYUPATAMARCA “village over the clouds” at an altitude 3,650m. encased on the slopes of a mountain. It is also built over descending terraces, looking at the mountains “from the clouds” likewise a steep stairway descends towards it. Fresh water springs from the mountain, fills up the six fountains and runs along them. A small rest to continue descending the Inca nice way.
The vegetation changes and the climate is suffocating. Almost the whole stretch is a downward hike . On a Clear afternoon you step across flowery fields and a small dried out pond. You enter the woods and go out a paririe with the discovery of a giant panorama: the snowy peaks of the Salkantay detach themselves over the mountains , The Urubamba is at the bottom of the chasms here you can also see the village of the power central. At the end of this paririe is the mountain Machupicchu; the next peak is the wayna pijchu and you can already see a section of the citadel , the intiwatana. You descend a stretch of this mountain covered orchid speckles the grass with red in June. Then the descending trail turns to the right and sinks into a wood. Hidden in the bushes are Inca Walls, remains of possible control posts. From here you find a clear spot when the sun is high. If you want to head forward to Machupicchu, take the first road on the left and follow the sings. But always ask, you can never be sure which is the right way in the season you are hiking due to the seemingly never-ending construction of hotels. In order to visit Wiñayhuyna, go down the road to the cabins very close behind the mountain is WIÑAYHUYNA”THE ETERNAL YOUTH” AT 2,600M. Altitude, built on steep canyon. Their two main complexes are linked by a stairway with ten fountains. The watchtower is built over a rocky protuberance which faces the bottom of the chasms vertically. The door of this watchtower is open to a bold and audacious sight. Her is our last camp side. Dinner and rest.
FOURTH DAY It is the last but the interesting part , To proceed towards the north, The back slopes of the Machupicchu mountain, through the cool wood, going by remains of Inca control posts.
After going up one staircase and then a second one, we reach INTIPUNKU. “porch of the sun” an kind of land mark on the road. Here you will deserve a rest to watch like the old inhabitants used to do. This is the original entrance to Machupicchu. Among the lights of the sunset, you can see the sacred river, the deep valleys and the lost city of the Incas, like a jewel guarded by the mountains. Another half hour of inoatient striding, passing through two controls, and you reach Machupicchu., You can not spend the night into the Machupicchu or outside. , it's absolutely forbidden the night in the ruins of Machupicchu. You can stay in the hotel sanctuary lodge or in Aguas Calientes many hostals and hotels. Tonight you will OVERNIGHT IN Aguas Calientes, MACHUPICCHU INN WILL BE THE HOTEL. by night you can go to the hot spring swimming pool to relax.
FIVETH LAST DAY. today early morning you can back to the ruins or just relax and by the afternoon your tourist train to back to Cusco and Transfer to Hotel.
